Sandy-beach events in October:

  • Many beaches are at their widest in October, after months of small waves have carried sand from offshore bars to shore.
  • With relatively warm water, light winds, and little fog, October often has some of the best "beach weather" of the year.
  • Young sand dollars have just finished drifting as larvae for a month or two, and settle out onto sand bars during the calmest time of the year
  • Mole-crab eggs hatch in late fall, releasing larvae that will spend the winter (4-5 months) at sea.
